Piera has 17,800 people and is the largest town in Anoia. Most drivers on the C-15 pass it by. The train from Barcelona stops here, which makes it a practical day trip without a car.

Park near the sports complex at the bottom of town. There's space. From there, it's a ten-minute walk uphill to the older streets. Don't try to drive into the centre; the lanes are narrow and steep.

Walk up to the castle

The castle ruins are at the top. Access is free, via a concrete ramp. What's left is some wall and a square tower. Don't expect guided tours or exhibits.

The point is the view. You see all of Anoia from here: fields, vineyards, smaller villages. It's a popular spot for sunset photos. On weekends, you'll often see wedding photographers working around the ruins.

Spend twenty minutes here. Walk a lap of the walls, take your photo, move on.

The centre and daily life

The streets below the castle are quiet on a weekday afternoon. A few shops serve local needs. There's no curated historic quarter.

Food here is straightforward: grilled butifarra sausage, hot sandwiches, draught beer in basic bars. In spring, a ceramics fair sometimes fills the main square with stalls selling pottery and coca de recapte, a vegetable-topped flatbread.

If you visit in August for the Festa Major, expect loud music, heat, and crowds by the football pitch.

Les Flandes clay formations

About three kilometres out of town is Les Flandes. It's an area of eroded red clay gullies. The council calls it their Grand Canyon; that's an exaggeration. It’s striking red earth in a region of green fields.

The walking loop takes about an hour on dusty paths. There is no shade and no services—bring water. Phone signal is patchy; have an offline map ready.

It’s worth seeing if you want contrast after the stone castle and farmland views.

A practical stop

Piera works as a short visit: see the castle view, walk through town, maybe detour to Les Flandes if you have transport. It functions as a normal town first. The train connection means you can be back in Barcelona before dark without any hassle over parking
